Time To Stop Fighting With Yourself About Deciding To Lose Weight - It’s Never Too Late Coaching

Time To Stop Fighting With Yourself About Deciding To Lose Weight

I marked the 3 year anniversary of the beginning of my weight loss journey just last month.

For the first time in my life, I was able to lose weight without a harsh internal critic haranguing and criticizing my efforts.

I learned that one of the biggest deterrents to my weight lost efforts in the past was that mean girl voice inside my head.

I didn’t realize how powerful and insidious her voice had become.  Her defeatist attitude left me helpless in the face of her insistence that I just couldn’t lose weight no matter what I tried.

How I was able to reach my goal weight without drama.

I hired a weight loss coach and surrendered to the coaching process.

I paid good money to learn a new system of thinking, feeling and planning.

My focus on my internal life sharpened.

I learned some fundamentals about metabolic science and neuroscience that empowered me to work with my body’s biological design rather than fight against it, just because I wanted what I wanted.

And, to my utter amazement, I blew past my initial weight loss goal effortlessly.  Whaaaat?

Now, 2 3/4 years later, I maintain a 25-30 pound weight loss, still without drama.  I’ve even dropped a few more pounds during the pandemic.

I weigh now what I weighed in my 20’s.  When I look in the mirror, I actually remember and recognize that body.

Even still, let’s be real.  I will turn 70 this summer.  So the truth is that I have the best looking 70 year old version of that 25 year old body.  I say so and so does my husband!

Thanks to weight loss coaching, I discovered many sabotaging dimensions of all the ideas, judgements, beliefs and opinions that kept me scurrying on the diet hamster wheel for decades.

I used that new awareness to challenge and change my old habitual ways of thinking about food, my weight, and my body.

Coaching was the best investment in my future I could have ever made!

Your internal dialogue can make or break your weight loss success.

Can you identify your negative thinking patterns?  What are the ideas, beliefs, judgements and opinions that you use against yourself?

Set the timer for 10 minutes and make a list of all the things the mean girl’s voice tells you are TRUE about food, your body, your weight.

Remember that the brain is an answer seeking machine.  It will always find ample evidence to support your thoughts.

Now, challenge whatever she says. Find the opposite thought.

Reframe your thinking.

Reframing can help you turn “I can’t” thinking into “I can” when you make a conscious decision to do it.

Focus on non-scale victories, benefits like more energy, ease of movement, clothes fitting better, better sleep.

Set daily manageable goals.

What’s one realistic goal/expectation you can meet today?

Quarantine words like “always” or “never.”

They put unnecessary pressure on you and can cause rebellious thinking to drive you to unwanted behaviors.

Ditch that perfectionist all or nothing thinking.

Setbacks don’t mean failure.  Interpret them as learning.  There can always be starting and stopping, for whatever reasons you decide you like.

There’s no more quitting.  Just remain flexible and move on.
